Q: How does the Migration Manager
user interface differ from that of Migration Assistant?
|
|
Metalogix Migration Manager extends the power and improves on the usability of
Migration Assistant with a new user interface featuring:
- Standalone Application Model - Migration Manager is a standalone application with an embedded Internet Explorer browser window
whereas the Migration Assistant interface is exposed through a toolbar in to Internet Explorer itself. This new application model allows for more screen real estate to be dedicated to migration management and thus provides more power and versatility for managing large scale migrations.
- URL-Centric Migration Management - Migration Manager allows users to manage the entire migration process, by managing the whole set of URLs that comprise the content and digital assets to be migrated. This URL-Centric approach is in contrast to Migration Assistant's migration rule centric approach.
- More Views on Migration - Migration Manager maintains multiple views on each migrated page. For each page of content being migrated, users can access a visual representation of the content being migrated, a raw XML view of the content and the actual migrated content item.

Q: How can Migration Manager help our organization migrate from an existing content management system?

Migration Manager's built-in pattern matching is ideally suited to migrate content from legacy content management systems to MCMS. Any content that is presented to the end-user as consistently structured HTML is an excellent candidate for rapid migration to MCMS or raw XML. Metalogix migration technology has been successfully used to migrate content from a wide variety of off-the-shelf and custom content management systems. Q: Can Migration Manager easily move content from widely varying source pages? Our web content was produced by multiple authors and much of the content lacks consistent structure.

Migration Manager has a wide variety of features to assist in rapidly migrating content from dissimilar source pages. These features include keyword matching, XPath matching, and the ability filter out unwanted content.
In extreme cases, where layout and content style differ dramatically across pages, Migration Manager accelerates migration by providing a simple interface to visually tag and export content and manage the entire migration. Even when every page of content has to be managed individually, Migration Manager can complete the migration an average of 70% faster than the alternative approaches of copy and paste or custom programming. This is in addition to the overall project benefits of improved visibility, traceability and repeatability of the entire migration process.

Q: What does Migration Manager do with images and file links?
|
|
|
Migration Manager lets you manage images individually, or in bulk, depending on your specific migration requirements. Images contained in MCMS placeholders can be automatically migrated along with corresponding posting content to any MCMS resource gallery. When more fine-grained control is required, images can be individually directed to MCMS resource galleries or SharePoint image libraries. After all images have been moved to their final destination, built-in link management will go through and automatically update content to use newly migrated images. |

Q: Is it possible to migrate content to MCMS custom properties and SharePoint document library properties?
|
|
|
Yes. Extracted content values can be easily mapped to custom properties in destination MCMS postings or SharePoint documents. In addition, Migration Manager provides the ability to create and apply user defined custom properties to any number of content items simultaneously. |

Q: The content we are migrating contains many hyperlinks that will be broken after migrating to our new system. Can Migration Manager assist in tracking or correcting these broken links? |

Yes to both. Migration Manager's link correction feature will
identify and/or update all links in migrated content that point to other migrated items.

Q: How can Migration Manager help with content validation post-migration? |
|

In several ways. Migration Manager provides rapid access to the most recently migrated content item corresponding to any managed URL. Using this view, authors can scan migrated content post-migration and make any required changes on-the-fly or delegate items using MCMS or SharePoint workflow. Migration Manager also provides the ability to locate MCMS postings or SharePoint documents that were generated from the same source URL, thereby ensuring that each source content item is migrated once and only once.
